About
I’ve always been good at making and saving money. As a kid, I would sell candy at school and cut lawns in the summer to make extra income (in addition to my meager allowance). I wasn’t spending very much of the money I earned because I liked saving money. While in college pursuing my undergraduate degree, I worked hard each summer to pay off all my outstanding school debt. I was able to graduate with a degree in computer engineering without any student loan debt.
After graduation, I accepted a job developing software for a large retail firm. I was finally making some real money yet I still wasn’t spending very much. Since my living expenses hadn’t increased much after college, I was saving nearly 40% of my income, in addition to contributing to my 401K. With all my savings being deposited in a savings account earning less than 1% in interest, I knew I needed an avenue to invest my money but wasn’t sure where or how. Thus, began my journey into learning as much as I could about investments and personal finance.
I would later go on to obtain an MBA with an emphasis in Finance. With the addition of children and the purchase of a family home, these days I’m unable to save or invest 40% of my income (children are expensive 🙂). However, I still have a passion and desire to increase my income streams and learn more about investing. These days my primary avenues of passive income are single family and multi-family real estate investments.
Why Did I Start This Site?
Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of my free time reading personal finance blogs and researching anything and everything related to investing and personal finance. I decided to share what I’ve learned thus far, including my successes and failures.
Most of the information in this blog revolve around my financial goals to generate passive income, create multiple sources of income and obtain financial freedom. For me, financial freedom means generating enough incomes streams to cover all expenses, so working a 9-5 is optional.
The Splendid Investor blog is intended to be an informative resource where advice, tips and experience on personal finance can be shared. The goal is to help you obtain financial independence. My hope is that readers will provide useful feedback and share their expertise and experiences so that we all can benefit from the shared knowledge.
